Save the Children – Indonesia

This film shows some of the things your generosity has made possible. It was filmed in the early days of our response, when we had reached 12,000 people; we have now reached more than 100,000 people with vital aid, getting safe drinking water to vulnerable children, and reuniting families in the midst of the chaos. I’d like to share with you this story of seven-year-old Rizky*.

Rizky was separated from his family in the tsunami that tore through his hometown of Palu in Central Sulawesi. He was found alone in the ruins of his home by some university students, who took him home and registered him with the local social services.

Through our family tracing service, conducted with our local partners in collaboration with social services and UNICEF, we identified Rizky’s father and grandmother. They had been trying to find him for two weeks.

These pictures capture the family at the moment they were reunited – made possible by the funds raised through our Indonesia appeal.

On behalf of Rizky, his family, and the thousands of other children you have helped us to reach, thank you.
